Newegg Commerce Inc. has introduced a shelf-to-person mobile picking system from Geekplus Technology Co. at its Ontario, Calif., warehouse to automate repetitive and physically demanding tasks.
Tim Zhou, Newegg’s IT manager, highlighted the expected improvements in picking efficiency and storage optimization. “This system aligns with our commitment to advanced technology for enhancing customer service,” he said.
Founded in 2001, Newegg is a major online retailer of PC hardware, electronics, gaming peripherals, and more. It operates seven warehouses across North America, including the 240,000-sq.-ft. facility in Ontario.
The new AMR system features P800 robots that transport mobile shelves to workstations where employees pick and scan products. These robots, which travel at over 3.5 mph and handle up to 1,000 kg , streamline the picking process, reduce physical strain, and improve efficiency.
Rick DeFiesta from Geek+ praised the system for its enhanced efficiency, accuracy, and safety. The robots handle routine tasks, allowing employees to focus on more complex roles, and have already led to improved safety and cost savings for Newegg.
