Lowe's in store augmented reality room designer
US hardware retailer Lowe's have come up with 'Holoroom' which is a hollow room in store allowing customers to preview what a room they have designed will look like using an iPad as an augmented reality viewing app. The concept was developed by Lowe's Innovation Labs team. Retail-Innovation.com believes that the next evolution of this technology could be to use an Oculus Rift virtual reality headset to view the room. Kitchen / bathroom shops will start to experiment more with this type of technology, however to date we're yet to see these 3D concepts progress beyond a trial due to the cost of capturing 3D content. When capturing 3D content becomes a more commoditised, we'll start to see greater adoption of 3D based technologies like this.
