Philips will soon be introducing LED light transmissive carpets. The carpets could be used for everything from delivering information to inspiration. The idea is that the lights could guide people around buildings by illuminating routes and safety exits. It would also make it possible to use the lights as signs, which means it would only be necessary to show information when it was needed.
“This light transmissive carpet solution is designed to engage directly with people’s senses and the eyes’ natural inclination to seek out light. The technology takes advantage of people’s tendency to be guided by the floor when moving through and interacting with space,” says Marketing and Sales Director of Philips Lighting Ed Huibers in a statement.
The solution will be designed to help people interact more efficiently with their environment in public spaces such as retail stores and shopping malls.
