OPEN.TV Shopping Network is an e-commerce technology company that promises to deliver an almost virtual online shopping experience via 3D photography and dynamic point-of-view video. Consumers will eventually be able to watch thousands of different products being OPENED for the first time at www.OPEN.TV. The idea is that this 3D photography will be viewable using a virtual reality headset like the Oculus Rift.
UK based retailer, House of Fraser’s Executive Director of Multichannel, Andy Harding has stated that the Oculus Rift could well be a ‘game-changer’ for the retail industry, with customers having an immersive shopping experience at home. Users could even sample virtual products themselves. As for if this would actually happen, Harding said: “If customers demand it, we will build it.”
