Tills use image recognition to identify products

British supermarket titan Sainsbury’s is use AI in it’s next-gen of NCR self-checkouts which are being rolled out across 22.5k checkouts in it’s supermarkets, convenience stores and petrol stations.

The enhancement leverages NCR Voyix’s cloud technology, enabling real-time data and analytics to streamline the customer journey. With AI-driven tools, Sainsbury’s will benefit from advanced sales analysis, future store performance projections, improved colleague productivity, and efficient cash management. The new system will also allow colleagues to approve transactions remotely via tablet, speeding up checkouts and enriching the shopping experience. Additionally, AI-powered self-checkouts will offer personalised promotions to each shopper.
