A look at Sainsbury’s Smartshop scan & go technology

Sainsbury’s, the second largest grocery retailer in the UK has rolled out a mobile version of its scan and go concept. Previously customers would have to pick up a scanning device when they entered the store scanning items as they dropped them into the trolley. This can now be done using the Smartshop mobile app.

We tested it versus using the retailer’s own device and whilst the accuracy of the scanner was a little less accurate, it was still practical to use.

Once all items are in the trolley the customer heads to a self checkout til and scans the QR code on the till screen which then displays all items in the trolley and takes the customer straight to payment.
