The idea for computer artificial intelligence was a concept dreamt up even before the birth of computing back in the first half of the 1800s. It gained widespread adoption over a century and half later mainly due the birth of the internet and the exponential growth in sources of data that enable artificial intelligence engines to learn and improve. Applications in retail are expected to be far ranging, from types of customer services being either partially or fully automated. The birth of the voice activated smart speaker such as Amazon's Echo or Google Home has brought the technology into the consciousness of the public. In a world where it's the customer who controls what messaging they see from the brand, retailers will look for subtle ways to create brand awareness by providing intelligent applications which provide value to a customer without bombarding the customer with generic brand messaging.
